چکیده

Determination of radionuclide transfer from animal feeds to products and ingestion rates is important in assessing internal radiation risk humans who consume the products. Seventy-nine (79) pasture samples milk were collected cattle farms seven sub-counties. Activity concentrations radionuclides determined using gamma spectroscopy. Transfer ratios calculated. Ingestion cow also determined. Radionuclide accumulation body was modeled. Contributions radiological effects due estimated. uranium thorium varied 0.07 0.17, 0.05 respectively. The 3.110-6 7.6 10-6 y l-1 while for thorium, 2.2 7.5 l-1. contribution radium equivalent (Bq l-1), annual effective dose (mSv excess lifetime cancer Risk 0.074, 0.002, 0.0061 10-3, Comparing with safe values foodstuffs 0.14 mSv which translates 0.42 these contributions only account about 1.5% total value risk, therefore, causes a minimal hazard consumers Kisoro District.

Assessment of geogenic natural radionuclide contents of soil samples collected from Ogun State, South western, Nigeria

Background: Natural radionuclides are always present in the environment. Human exposure to the background radiation is inevitable. It is therefore important to assess health risk associated with these radionuclides. Materials and Methods: The distribution of natural radionuclides 238U, 232Th and 40K in soil samples collected from all the twenty (20) local Governments headquarter areas in Ogun s...

A Study on Transfer Factors of Environmental Radionuclides: Radionuclide Transfer from Soil to Different Varieties of Rice in Gorgan, Iran

Introduction Natural and artificial radionuclides are the main sources of human radiation exposure. These radionuclides, which are present in the environment, can enter the food chain. Rice is one of the most important food components in Iran. Radionuclides by transferring from soil to rice and entering the human body can affect human health. Materials and Methods Fourteen samples of different ...

Genetic diversity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Mbarara, South Western Uganda.

BACKGROUND We determined the genetic diversity of mycobacteria isolated from tuberculosis patients in Mbarara Uganda, using region of difference (RD) analysis and spacer oligonucleotide typing (spoligotyping). METHODS Sputum samples were cultured on Lowenstein Jensen media. The isolates were characterized using RD analysis and spoligotyping. RESULTS The majority (92.8%) of the patients were...

Distribution of radionuclide in the forest soils (Western Ghats-India)

Background: The presence of radionuclides in the soil, measures need to be taken to minimize the radiation dose to humans. It is mostly gamma-emitting radionuclides that contribute to the radiation dose in long term behavior of these radionuclides in soil may determine the extent to which such countermeasures need to be applied. Materials and Methods: The activity concentration of these radionu...

Transition of Aflatoxin from Feedstuff to Animal Milk and Pasteurized Milk in Shiraz City and Suburbs (South Iran)

Introduction: There are a lot of fungi in our environment which grow and reproduce if the heat and humidity are suitable. Aspergillus flavus and parasilicus are among the most important food contaminants and have major roles in food poisoning. These fungi secrete poisons which contaminate feedstuffs as well as the milk we get from the animals fed with them. Because of the dire effects of thes...
